“Global Perspectives on Collections” is a series of interdisciplinary events based on current Staatliche Museen zu Berlin exhibitions, research projects and collaborations with transcultural themes and socially relevant topics.
Lectures, panel discussions and workshop reports provide insights into the acquisition history (-ies) and historical interrelationships of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin collections. They also highlight the broad potential of museums to address current issues. The way in which acquisitions from the colonial period are dealt with plays an important role, as do collaborations with representatives of the societies of origin and the inclusion of non-European contemporary positions in dialogue with European art. Furthermore, the task of museums today is critically reviewed and possible approaches to current societal concerns are discussed.
