13:00: Scottish Gaelic for (absolute) beginners
In this course, you will learn the classic survival techniques. The participants take excursions into the rich world of Gaelic history and culture. As songs are an inseparable part of this culture, you will also learn some Gaelic songs during the workshop. Taught by Michael Klevenhaus, author of several Gaelic short stories and novels as well as the Textbook of the Scottish Gaelic Language.
16:00: Film screening – Beethoven and Scotland?
What does Gaelic song have to do with Ludwig van Beethoven? That is revealed in the film Òrain Ghàidhlig Beethoven - In Search of Beethoven´s Scottish Songs (Michael Klevenhaus, BBC ALBA/Scotland 2020, OmEU - original language with English subtitles). Commissioned by the Scottish publisher George Thomson, Beethoven arranged around 180 Scottish, Welsh and Irish folk songs.
