Talk with Taina Máret Pieski, director Sámi Museum Siida, Finland, and Elisabeth Tietmeyer, director MEK Berlin
The project “The Sámi Collection at the MEK. A multi-perspective approach to provenance research” brings the MEK together with Sámi museums and artisans (duojárat). It is a combination of traditional archival provenance research, Sámi knowledge and skills. It repatriates object biographies that were originally part of the Sámi cultural heritage “orphaned” by colonialism. Personal stories related to collecting in Sápmi in the late 19th and early 20th centuries are also collected. The duojárat bring the objects back to life through their work.
The discussion will focus on these and other possible collaborations relating to Sámi cultural heritage. The talk will be moderated by Eeva-Kristiina Nylander, provenance reseracher at the MEK.
The talk will be held in English.
Included in entrance fee.
