Speaker: Hiroshi Wada, Supervisor Conservation Science, Tokyo National Museum

Firstly, the transportation in 2009 of a Buddhist wooden statue with a very complicated shape, for which driving and vibration tests were carried out and the packaging was improved before transportation, will be presented as a case study. The use of wire ropes as vibration isolators was almost unprecedented in Japan at that time.
Subsequently, with the evolution of measuring equipment, the measurement of vibrations generated during transportation became extremely precise.
A second case study on the long-distance transportation of glass dry plates conducted in 2023 will be presented, where acceleration data loggers were used to measure the vibrations generated during the transportation and transmitted into the packing boxes.

The lecture will be held in English.

Free admission. No registration needed.
