"Sankofa“ (a word from the Twi language of Ghana that translates to „Go back and get it“) is a concept that is used in African diaspora to inquire about memories that have been buried and invisibilized. Caycedo’s performance Sankofa explores memory as the function charged with preserving and transmitting energy temporally, allowing someone to react to something in the past from a distance. The artist along with two dancers activates the Serpent River Book and fishing nets relating to Caycedo’s installation in the exhibition „How to talk with birds, trees, fish, shells, snakes, bulls and lions“ at Hamburger Bahnhof.
