From December 2021, admission to the Neue Nationalgalerie will be free of charge on every third Thursday of the month from 4 to 8 pm. The initiative is made possible by Volkswagen, a long-standing partner of the Nationalgalerie, and offers a diverse programme of events and mediation projects.
Students are specifically addressed and invited to participate in a free workshop and mentoring programme. The programme is designed with students of all disciplines in mind. Participants will work together with artists, art educators and museum experts on developing new concepts for museum education. They will develop approaches to museum education that are aimed at diverse audiences. In the long-term, students will help shape VOLKSWAGEN ART 4 ALL and set their own priorities.
Students in the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin
In the Winter Semester of 2014/15, the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin began collaborating with students and universities. Over the course of five semesters, the first structures of a dynamic network developed between students, teachers and the staff of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. With the ABOUT THE MUSEUM initiative, students became the focus of the educational work of the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin. Over the last 3 years students from different disciplines have been involved in a variety of ways to help shape the education programme with their perspectives, interests and ideas.
With Volkswagen Art4All, student activities will concentrate on the Neue Nationalgalerie for two years. Through an interdisciplinary approach and by engaging with current approaches to museum education and mediation, new and more varied target audiences will be reached. Across workshops, events and seminars, students will have the opportunity to develop ideas and formats in which dialogical, participatory, artistic and experimental approaches to mediation can be explored and trained. Beyond the regular courses of study, students have the chance to independently design and test new ways of engaging with the works of the Neue Nationalgalerie’s collection and current exhibitions.
Participation in the activities of Volkswagen Art4All is free of charge.
