The Visitor Services department coordinates the collaborative education work between schools and museums. Many Staatlichen Museen zu Berlin museums offer educational guided tours, workshops, and other events that are specifically tailored to the needs of different grade levels and school curricula on specific subject matter.
Why did the Egyptians use a different kind of writing than we use? What do Surrealists dream about? What was life like in the Etruscan civilization? The Staatliche Museen can provide answers while simultaneously enhancing teaching plans. In accompaniment to many permanent and temporary exhibitions there are tours, workshops, and other events that are tailored to specific grade levels and curricula. Museum staff can also develop topics for tours or workshops that address specific wishes and special needs – within the framework of special projects, for example.
Teacher training events create a space for professional exchange on museum topics and how to prepare to teach them. Training courses are designed to help teachers become familiar with museum exhibition concepts. Curators, museum staff, and museum educators introduce teachers to current exhibitions, present additional material that can be used at school or during museum visits, and provide information about museum services.
A course programme is issued for each school year.
Visitor Services regularly sends out an educational newsletter detailing current educational events offered for schools, after-school programmes, and day-cares as well as those events geared toward teachers and educators. Available upon request.
