With support from the Kulturstiftung der Länder, the Stiftung Deutsche Klassenlotterie Berlin and thanks to a donation by Adolf Würth GmbH & Co. KG, it has been possible to safeguard Gottlieb Schick's "Portrait of a Young Man" for the city of Berlin. The world-renowned collection of Romantic painting in the Alte Nationalgalerie (Old National Gallery) on the Museum Island in Berlin has subsequently been enriched with the addition of this prize example of German Neoclassicism.
The "Portrait of a Young Man" was formally presented by Klaus Wowereit, the mayor of Berlin, during a farewell ceremony in honour of Peter-Klaus Schuster. The painting will be on view in the Alte Nationalgalerie (Old National Gallery) from Tuesday 4 November 2008 as part of the "In the Temple of Art" exhibition.
