Friends of the Neues Museum – Museum Island Berlin e.V.

The National Museums in Berlin have developed a concept together with David Chipperfield to restore the Neues Museum which suffered serious damage during the Second World War. The aim is to transform the building back into a functioning museum without completely erasing the traces of the building's own history. The Society of Friends is committed to raising funds to support the restoration of both the art and the building of the Neues Museum. Priorities are the conservation work on the façade and architectural structures as well as structural repairs to the interior and historical rooms. The society differs in this respect from other fundraising initiatives which tend to concentrate more on acquiring art works for museums. The 'Friends of the Neues Museum - Museum Island Berlin' lays special importance on architectural and sculptural projects and hopes to foster lasting values in the Neues Museum through its patronage.
