This exhibition shows works of the sculptor Björn Dahlem who has been awarded this years' 'Piepenbrock Förderpreis für Skulptur' which is endowed with 12,500 Euros.
Dahlem, born in Munich in 1974, attended the Düsseldorfer Kunstakademie as a student of Hubert Kiecol, and now lives in Berlin. Within the scope of the award he teaches as a visiting professor at the University of Arts in Berlin.
His vast installations made of neon lamps, laths, Styrofoam and scraps of carpet portray physical phenomena and extraterrestrial worlds. Dahlem transfers scientific models into the sphere of art, inspired by philosophy. He 'abducts the beholder into another world, and with his installations he evokes the special impression of an experimental-alchemistic studio as a location for the viewer', according to Friedrich Meschede, one of the jurers from the 'Deutscher Akademischer Austauschdienst' ('German Academic Exchange Service').
