Contemporary Art from Australia
The exhibition FACE UP documents, in 14 artistic positions, the concentrated and lively art scene in Australia. It brings together different generations, and avoids reducing the term 'contemporary' to a young scene. What the artists have in common is their quickly-gained international reputations and also the clear marks they have made on Australia. The exhibition shows the origins of Australian art, its future direction and its position in international art. FACE UP doesn't represent the simple expression of a national identity, as contemporary Australia is built up on a unique mixture of rich traditions and very dynamic cultures.
