Germans and Georgians
From the Middle Ages to Today
An exhibition at the Daschanaschia-Museum, Tiflis
For the first time ties between Germans and Georgians, from their earliest encounters in the Middle Ages to the present day, are being explored in an exhibition devised with a strong cultural-historical focus. One of the principle aims of the exhibition is to raise awareness among a broad section of the public of the depth and complexity of German-Georgian relations that go as far back as the Middle Ages. The exhibition highlights the historical and cultural processes, and economical and scientific achievements, as well as many of the personal encounters of individuals from both regions.
The exhibition contains artworks, books, documents, photographs and scores of other objects from Georgian institutions and museums. It is being held to coincide with the tenth anniversary of the start of formal diplomatic ties between Germany and Georgia, which began on 13 May 1992. The exhibition was opened as part of the programme of events entitled 'German Week in Georgia'.
The Prussian Cultural Heritage Foundation has been actively involved in Georgia over the last two years as part of a twinning project sponsored by the European Union. It has organized the exhibition in conjunction with the German embassy in Tiflis and the Georgian National Museum.
