Kaiser Wilhelm II and the 'Orient'

Lecture held in German as part of the special exhibition 'The Tell Halaf Adventure'

Speaker: Dr. Olaf Matthes, Stiftung Historische Museen Hamburg

Kaiser Wilhelm II was himself a passionate hobby archaeologist and had a great interest in ancient civilizations. Most pronounced of all were his concerns with the Ancient Near East. In this way he merely reflected a wave of enthusiasm among his German subjects for the 'Orient', or the Middle East, and its ancient culture that took expression in a variety of forms across many walks of life.
