Pergamonmuseum
The Tell Halaf Adventure
Sun 6 March 2011, 2:00 p.m.
guided tour for adults
It was in 1899 that Baron Max von Oppenheim discovered the royal residence of Tell Halaf in Syria dating from the early days of the first millennium B.C. Although many of the spectacular finds were taken to Berlin, they were not exhibited in the Pergamonmuseum, as originally intended. Instead they were unveiled to the public in 1930 at an exhibition housed in a converted factory building. When this museum was bombed in November 1943, all the exhibits were destroyed. Almost seventy years later, Oppenheim's greatest wish has come true: the restoration of the stone sculptures!
Every 1st Sunday of the month, 2 p.m.
