Imagine: you have to reassemble a puzzle from 27,000 pieces. If that were not enough, all the pieces are the same colour and some of them weigh a tonne! Within the space of nine years, a small team of scholars and restorers managed to complete this unimaginable task. They reassembled the fragments from over 30 monumental sculptures and relief panels along with countless stone implements and pieces of masonry. An incendiary bomb laid waste to these unique, 3000 year-old artefacts in the Second World War. The Museum of the Ancient Near East's stone restorer describes the work process involved, by way of a few select exhibits and is on hand to personally answer questions.
