St. Matthäuskirche (Kulturforum)
Fri 11 March - Fri 22 April 2011
An exhibition by the National Museums' Museum of European Cultures, in conjunction with Stiftung St. Matthäus.
'Passion' stands for suffering and intense emotion: as a central tenet in Christianity for the sufferings of Christ and for the suffering of humankind. It also stands for the passion of the artist and the collector.
Selected sculptures by Polish naïve artists on the theme of 'passion' on display from the collection of the renowned book designer, Hans-Joachim Schauss, invite the viewer to pause and reflect. The accompanying material documenting Schauss' encounter with the artists in Poland illustrates one very personal aspect of the new coexistence between Poles and Germans after the Second World War. The material reveals the collector's individual approach to dealing with the past and urges us to always find new ways of looking at a common European future.
