Langhansbau am Schloß Charlottenburg
Sat 15 November 2008 - Sat 28 February 2009
An exhibition by the Visitor Services of the National Museums in Berlin, in cooperation with Carl-Kraemer-Grundschule in Berlin Mitte and the Museum of Prehistory and Early History.
This project has been sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Family Affairs, Senior Citizens, Women and Youth as part of the "Diversity Does Us Good" scheme, which campaigns for diversity, tolerance and democracy among youth and against right-wing extremism, xenophobia and antisemitism.
"Layers upon Layers of History" is the title of an archaeological art project involving pupils from Carl-Kraemer-Grundschule (a school with a core focus on art), which took place over the course of a year from September 2007 to August 2008 in the district of Wedding in and around Soldiner Straße. Just as with many other districts of Berlin, the families of the children attending this school come from a variety of countries.
The exhibition in the Museum for Prehistory and Early History presents to the public the series of activities incorporated in the project together with the various works which arose as a result. The quality of the pupils' art work and their palpably strong sense of motivation provide an incentive to invest more in long-term cultural projects in Berlin's boroughs and to tie such projects in closely with such institutions as the Berlin museums.
A brochure accompanies the exhibition, which is packed with illustrations, depicts the project's individual stages and locations and the children's respective art work.
