Disegno!
The Draftsman Pictured

In co-operation with the Kunsthistorisches Institut in Florence and the Max Planck Institute in Florence.

The studio exhibition brings together precious Early Renaissance drawings by Agnolo Daddi, Pisanello, Maso Finiguerra and workshop, Filippino Lippi, and Sandro Botticelli, in addition to significant graphic works from the 16th century, as well as works by Annibale Carracci and later versions of a central work: the famous so-called 'chain map' with the 'Great View of Florence' held at the Kupferstichkabinett - Museum of Prints and Drawings. In this monumental woodcut by Lucantonio degli Umberti, the artist makes a first appearance as the author of his work. Here, he depicts himself as the designing draftsman. Following the theme of the pictured draftsman and the dazzling term 'disegno', the exhibition and its accompanying catalogue trace the drawing as a medium of awareness.
