An Art Centre Basel exhibition supported by the Kunstbibliothek, Staatliche Museen zu Berlin
The exhibition offers an international panorama of the 27 most important museum buildings of the present day. The greatest museum project of the 21st Century will reach its conclusion - the transformation of the Museum Island into a museum area of the future, opening up new, extra-European horizons in the Humboldt Forum on the site of the former royal palace opposite the Museum Island will be couched in a global architectural context. It will be possible to experience the 21st century as an era in which museum architecture is more than ever the engine of architectural progress and a source of inspiration for all kinds of buildings.
For the Berlin exhibition, the catalogue is being updated with the latest state of plans for the Museum Island and supplemented with an outline of the Humboldt Forum project.
The exhibition shows 27 architectural models, photographic documents, films and computer animations. It is organised by the architects home countries and leads towards the Museum Island, presented in the main exhibition hall.
