On Sunday, 8.9.2013 the highly successful exhibition 'URUK - 5000 Years of the Megacity' came to a close at the Pergamonmuseum. It attracted more than 400,000 visitors. The exhibition now moves on to the LWL-Museum für Archäologie in Herne, Germany, where it will go on show from 3 November, 2013 to 21 April 2014.
Herne is located in the heart of the Ruhr Metropolitan Region. The Ruhr offers interesting parallels to the historical development of a megacity 5000 years ago.
'Uruk - 5000 Years of the Megacity' is an exhibition presented by the Vorderasiatisches Museum - Staatliche Museen zu Berlin in cooperation with the Curt Engelhorn Foundation, Reiss-Engelhorn-Museen, Mannheim, the Oriental Department of the German of Archaeological Institute and the German Orient Society.
