One of the core responsibilities of the Kupferstichkabinett (Museum of Prints and Drawings) is the publication and communication of its research activities in an objective and comprehensible manner to the general public - primarily by means of printed and online catalogues as well as changing exhibitions.
Due to its excellent reputation, its expertise, and its noteworthy academic achievements which have received recognition far beyond purely professional and scholarly circles, the Kupferstichkabinett is, unsurprisingly, a vital partner in several international and national collaborative projects and networks. Such collaborative research projects include academic Clusters-of-Excellence programmes as well as events that have broad immediate appeal to a broader audience.
In the area of research, the Kupferstichkabinett’s key competence area is primarily applied in specialist consultation offered to museums and academic institutions, as well as to students, scholars, collectors, and the wider public both within Germany and abroad. The Kupferstichkabinett plays an active role in the training of future scholars, curators and conservators.
In addition, the Kupferstichkabinett supports other museums by lending works of art from the collections to exhibition projects. As an institution with a reputation for scholarly respectability, the Kupferstichkabinett promotes the undiminishing appreciation of cultural goods, topics, and values among the general public, and works towards its goals with a high degree of professional, scholarly, and ethical responsibility.
