Libraries

With a total of approximately 400,000 volumes, the Art Library (Kunstbibliothek) is one of the most important specialised libraries for the study of art and related fields in Germany. Its comprehensive holdings of specialist literature attract around 35,000 readers a year. The Art Library collects material on the history and study of art, with a particular focus on architecture, book art, graphic art, applied art, painting, poster art, and sculpture. It is a reference library with a reading room of 66 seats and two reading cabins; books are made available within 30 to 45 minutes.

Rara: Items from the rare books collection are usually available the following day.
Special collections: Items from the collections Neue Buchkunst (New Book Art, shelf mark NB), Grisebach (shelf mark Gris), and Ornamentstichsammlung (ornamental prints, shelf mark OS) can be viewed in the study room of the Lipperheide Costume Library the day after they have been ordered.

The reading room in the Kunstbibliothek will be accessible from 9 am to 8 pm, Monday to Friday.

The study room of the Kunstbibliothek will be accessible from 14 to 8 pm on Mondays and from 9 am to 4 pm, Tuesday to Friday.

The reading room of the Archäologische Bibliothek in the Archäologisches Zentrum will be accessible from 9 am to 8 pm, Monday to Friday.
