Education and outreach

Fascinated by the language of symbols in Christian art? Curious to hear the great love story behind a small portrait bust? Or would you like to learn more about the various materials used to make works of art?

You can enrich your exploration of the museum by using an audio guide, joining a public tour, or booking a private tour or workshop according to your personal interests.

What games did people play in the ancient city of Byzantium? The museum owns a unique marble betting game from Constantinople. It shows that such games of chance have always been popular, even in antiquity. The museum also invites children to experience Hercules’ battle against the Hydra; uncover the secrets of knights, dragons, and devils; meet the most famous mother in the world; and make drawings of the objects in the museum.

In the past, the museum has hosted productions of such operas as ‘The Marriage of Figaro’, ‘Orpheus and Eurydice’, and ‘La clemenza di Tito’: enchanting performances that each time cast the museum in a new light. On selected Sundays, brunch concerts are held that invite visitors to experience the Bode-Museum as a harmony of architecture, art works, music, and culinary delights, enlivening all the senses.
