Masterpieces of Literati Painting from the Klaus F. Naumann Collection

Temporary exhibition in the Klaus F. Naumann Gallery at the Museum of East Asian Art

Since 1999, the Klaus F. Naumann Collection has been on permanent loan to the Museum of East Asian Art, enriching its holdings immensely. Around 200 objects have been made available by the Berlin-born collector and art dealer Klaus Friedrich Naumann, who has been living in Tokyo for over thirty years. Of these, around fifty objects are presented at any one time in alternating displays in their own gallery in the museum. The presentations focus on secular Japanese painting from the Tokugawa period (1600-1868), ceramics of the Japanese popular art movement (Mingei movement) in the first half of the 20th century, as well as Chinese and Japanese lacquer art.
