The ideas competition for the “Museum of the Twentieth Century and its integration into the urban environment" is now closed. From 26 February to 13 March 2016, the Kulturforum will be hosting an exhibition displaying the ten winning concepts for the art complex's most recent construction project, alongside proposals submitted by the 450 remaining entrants.
The selection of the top ten ideas at the beginning of February 2016 marked the official end of the open competition, which invited proposals for the “Museum of the Twentieth Century and its integration into the urban environment". A total of 460 teams of architects and landscape architects from Germany and throughout the world submitted ideas for the new building, which is due to be constructed at the Kulturforum and will house twentieth-century art. The ten teams whose ideas were selected by the jury are now eligible to take part in the design competition. This will begin in mid-2016 and should ultimately produce concrete design proposals for the Museum of the Twentieth Century.
From 26 February to 13 March 2016, visitors will be able to see all 460 entries in the Kulturforum's special exhibition rooms. In accordance with the terms of the competition, the ten selected concepts are being displayed without reference to their respective originators, as it is necessary to maintain anonymity throughout the duration of the design competition.
The opening of the new building at the Kulturforum will see a number of internationally significant collections go on permanent display in the same location for the first time. At the same time, the new museum represents an opportunity to use urban design as a way of finding an appropriate response to the challenges presented by the Kulturforum's unique setting.
