from: 31.08.2010 to: 12.12.2010

Museum für Asiatische Kunst

An exhibition held in conjunction with Gertraud and Joachim Sommer, Munich

After the last exhibition dedicated to Zeng Mi in 2003, the Museum of Asian Art again proudly presents around twenty new works by the painter, calligrapher and art theorist Zeng Mi. Zeng Mi was born in the coastal city of Fuzhou in the south-eastern province of Fujian and studied Chinese landscape painting from 1957 to 1962 at the China Academy of Art in Hangzhou (Zhejiang Province). Today Zeng Mi is a member of the Zhejiang Art Academy in Hangzhou.

With his intense pictures, nearly all executed in Chinese ink, he is one of the most outstanding figures in contemporary Chinese painting. In his own unique way, he has managed to merge traditional Chinese painting techniques with Western concepts in the depiction of space and light. As a result, he creates pictures, most of which landscapes, that are of an inherently expressive intensity and in which, in accordance with Chinese concepts, spiritual affinity takes precedence over formal similarity.
